Hariti Gaddam
Background
Born in southern India, growing up I have always been surrounded by temples with intricate architecture, floral garlands of jasmine and roses, elephants with bells, hand made baskets weaved with patterns. My cultural upbringing has always taught me to value the importance of delicately designed objects and spaces in the middle of the stir of a rapidly growing country.
I decided to pursue my Ba in spatial design at the university of the arts London. where I have learned the importance of appreciation of different styles of architecture in conjunction to today's architecture.
As history plays an important role in design. I have used my travels across Andalusia, Spain, gardens of Alhambra and fields of orange and pomegranate plantations to create the Mediterranean collection. My work is a re-interpretation of the essential elements of the region.

In the recent years, my appreciation for plants has led me to take on botanical painting. A very varied subject yet the detailed precision, intricate patterns formed by nature has taught me to appreciate transformative and evolving forms. I am eager to use these skills along with my other design abilities when given a chance.
Design philosophy and inspiration
Inspiration is everywhere. however, finding a starting point for a design can always be overwhelming. I try to use a subject, a place or a design theory a base for my work.
My current inspiration are tropical fruits. I have reimagined them as spaces. Further I have used these designs in creating scarf and textile patterns.

Skills
I have excellent computer skills that I have developed over time through various projects and experiences. I mainly use Adobe software, CAD, and animation programs to create detailed designs and visual experiences.
Additionally, I am always working on improving my drawing and painting skills to enhance my overall design abilities and achieve greater precision in my work when needed. I believe something hand drawn or keeping a small sketchbook is always a good start for developing ideas.

Location
Being a local in London is always exciting even on a rainy day. There is always something exciting going on in the city, my recent favourite gallery visits are ‘when forms come alive’ at the Hayward and Michael Craig-Martin works at the RA.
I always look forward to visiting the kew in spring as nature plays a profound role in design, it’s always inspiring to discover new flowering plants.
Hobbies and interests
capturing a curated collection of objects and places while travelling is what I always look forward to. The Silk Road exhibition at the British gallery where the emphasis on how transportation of spices and objects have shaped history has led me into reading ‘the golden road’ by William Dalrymple. I am looking forward to working with objects from museums at some point in the future.
Favourite artists and designers?
I am always looking forward to discovering artists that play with form and composition. one of my all time favourite are the works of Raf simons from ‘Dior and I’. where he used floral as a subject to reinterpret, refine and play with form and composition
James Turrell being the master in light and colour has always inspired me as a young kid. My series colour x design is where I have tried to implement the idea of forming interconnections between architecture and illustration using Light and colour as a design theory.
